Security professionals have their hands full, day in and day out, keeping their organizations safe from threats to personnel, physical assets, or data. To be successful, you need the knowledge and skills to manage your team and coordinate their efforts across a wide range of tasks, such as managing surveillance systems and access controls, monitoring network traffic, and working with Human Resources to develop policies. In addition to its monthly print and digital publication, Security magazine provides a breadth of security industry news on wide-ranging topics, such as surveillance, cybersecurity, physical/facility security, security guards, and access controls, to name a few. Much of its content is aimed at security executives, though it is easily digestible by those in various positions throughout the security industry.


CSO is an online publication focused on providing high-quality content to decision-makers in the security field. Its articles have a tighter focus on the needs of cybersecurity professionals, though you can also find in-depth discussions on trends in security technology, such as access controls and surveillance, alongside best practices for securing physical infrastructure. It provides a host of other resources, as well, including product reviews, events and awards programs, case studies, white papers, and videos that address security basics.

Security Today

The print and digital editions of Security Today magazine are great resources for up-to-date information about security hardware and technology. Its website is also full of the latest security news that security professionals need, along with online learning courses approved by top security associations.

Security Industry Association (SIA)

With the vision of being the leading industry association for security professionals, SIA provides a robust set of resources for its members. In addition to its industry-standard certification program in security project management, it offers a wide range of continuing education opportunities for security professionals in every stage of their career. SIA also produces a number of events, including the twice-yearly International Security Conference and Exposition (ISC), among numerous others.

Security Management

Security Management magazine is a publication of ASIS International, another major security industry association. Each issue of the magazine contains highly informative content and practical solutions written by thought leaders in the security industry to help security professionals stay a step ahead of threats. In addition to the magazine, ASIS has numerous resources, including several credential certifications, professional development and networking opportunities, and continuing education.

Krebs on Security

Brian Krebs started as a journalist and investigative reporter. He was bitten by the security bug after he fell victim to an early computer virus that locked him out of his computer. Now he runs Krebs on Security, his platform for in-depth investigative reporting on major cybersecurity news. Although his work is not directed at security personnel exclusively, Krebs is a wonderful writer with a knack for breaking down the how and why of cybercrime while providing tips and tricks to avoid becoming a victim yourself.
